What: First Date!
When: Friday evening
Where: Okeanos restaurant
Warnings: Fluff
It was an odd sensation, to be nervous. Thanatos hardly ever felt it. His life was routine, and he never had much to look forward to. But now was different. Now he was standing outside of a restaurant in his best clothes to wait for the girl who he'd asked out. The first person he'd done this with. He was still convinced he'd mess this up somehow, but if anything he knew Lyra. It wouldn't make this too awkward. Hopefully.
The restaurant had been a suggestion of Hekate's and Hades'. He'd gone to say hello and when he'd told her she hadn't stopped cheering for him. To make matters worse, Hades had stopped by and been informed. It hadn't been fun. In the end Hekate had quieted and suggested the place. It was up scale and very good. He'd had some doubts about pricing, which was when Hades had simply told him he'd pay for it. The Lord had shrugged and said impressing a girl did a lot, and clearly this was a mortal worth respecting if Death liked her. Thanatos had not known how to say no. He wasn't sure if he should mention that little adventure to Lyra.
He wasn't sure of a lot, so he was running blind. Taking this one step at a time seemed the best idea. So he focused on waiting near the entrance, hands in his pockets and trying his hardest to fir into the mortals who always avoided him if just a little. Their instincts still noticed, despite the facade.

Lyra wanted, more than anything, to take Thanatos breath away. It was sort of a silly thought as he was a death god but maybe he was just like any other man in some ways too. So she spent longer getting ready for this date than she ever had for any other, even straightening her hair so that it reached halfway down her back and wearing actual 'going out' make up instead of just the splash of foundation she usually wore. Tonight wasn't a night for looking au naturale, it was for attempting - in some small way - to look like a goddess (even though Thanatos knew real ones of those.)
She'd chosen the same green dress that had sort of started this (and a sneaky sneaky push-up bra beneath to enhance herself a little) and then finally called for a taxi, still not sure she was ready.
She'd just changed her shoes again when the taxi arrived and she tried not to chew on her freshly painted nails on the ride over to the restaurant she'd been told, the breeze as she stepped out light and not yet too cold. After paying the driver she made her way over towards Okeanos and smiled brightly when she say Thanatos. (She had, she remembered then, being going to try for the sultry, sexy eyes on her approach, but smiling always came too naturally to be denied.)

He half worried if Lyra would not show, but she didn't seem to be the type who would do that. Nor was she hurt. He was deciding on whether or not to call her when he spotted her, and he forgot everything. He'd always suspected that Lyra didn't see her own beauty. While he enjoyed the lack of vanity, he was always blown away with how radiant she could be.
He didn't move for a moment, stunned, before he came to and walked to her, giving her a bright smile. "Wow." this was the dress that had brought on his confession. He remembered why now.
"You look, amazing. More then amazing."

"Amazing is good," Lyra beamed, basking in the praise and even more the look that he gave her. "Figured I should make an effort for a date, haven't had one I cared about so much for a long while. And you look pretty good yourself, mister." She couldn't quite stop smiling and she knew that however this date went from here it would all be okay.

"Thank you," he gave an almost shy smile to that. "I had some help." he shrugged but with a smile he went to take her hand. "and you do really look amazing. I am glad you looked forward to this." Smiling he nodded to the restaurant. "There's reservations for us if you are ready. I hear good things about this place."

"Your twin?" Lyra asked, her hand slipping into his easily. It felt right there, but as soon as she thought that she felt silly for the cliche of it. "What can I say?" Lyra teased. "You're really cute. And you have dark secrets, a girl can't resist." Then she smiled brightly and nodded. "Let's go in. It looks very fancy, so I'm glad I decided to dress up."

With a smile he nodded and curled his fingers around his, leading her into the place. "Yes. He has a better taste in clothes then I do." He gave the name to the host, who brought them to their table. Deciding that showing manners wouldn't hurt he pulled out her chair before sitting down. "And you are beautiful."
He glanced around, "they said it was. It was suggested to me by a friend."

"I guess fashion isn't really much to death," Lyra said thoughtfully and then grinned as he complimented her again. "You can keep telling me that forever, you know," she said as she sat down, never having had a chair pulled out for her before. "I won't mind."
She glanced around the other people and then looked at Thanatos again. "I feel like they might know we're secretly not posh and kick me out. Well, you're sort of posh, being a god is quite posh and upper-class, the highest class I suppose, and they don't just let anyone into Olympus after all- Oh! I saw Olympus once! But I didn't see anything supernatural even though mom said if I squinted I would be able to see Zeus' throne and- Oh no, I'm doing it again." Lyra shut her mouth quickly to stop herself from continuing forever.it again."

He let her talk, because despite her worries she was rather adorable while doing so. When she finished he set his hand on hers. "You never have to feel odd doing that Lyra. It is a part of why I like you. Your energy." He released her hand and smiled. He couldn't stop it seemed.
"To answer your questions no fashion has never been on the front. Secondly I will tell you how beautiful you are as often as you want to hear it." He glanced to the menu before her, "and I was not allowed on Olympus. I dwelt in Hades' realm. But no one will kick us out here. I promise you that.

Somehow his third comment made her a little sad and she leaned across the table, still not having yet looked at her menu. "They didn't let you on Olympus? Not even at all?"" she asked, sounding truly sympathetic and upset for something that had happened thousands of years ago. But then with a tilt of her head she asked, "what's the underworld like? Back home in Thessaloniki there was a river out the back and I almost drowned myself because I thought it was the river Styx and that by going down through it somehow I could reach Hades. It... didn't happen... obviously."

He glanced to her, deciding what he wanted fairly easily, and smiled. He glanced around then shrugged, "they were called the 'deathless gods'. They hardly wanted what made mortals mortal around. I did not mind Lyra. I liked the Underworld."
He smirked," and I am glad it did not, obviously. And it is less gloomy then people imagine. The throne room is a bit foreboding, but it should be. Last time to make a case and all. I wish I could take you, but no living are allowed in Hades' realm. Hades could describe it better, if you ever wish to speak to him. His reputation, like mine, is severely unfounded. He is grumpy and gloomy, but a good man at heart."

He shrugged, "a momentary lapse in judgment, honestly. Even I was surprised. He is the most level headed and calm of the Olympians. He never seemed to be the type. It may have been Persuasion and Force who encouraged him, aided by Eros' arrow." And now he knew how that felt, so he could relate.
"Honestly as he tells it it sounded like a good idea at the time. He regrets it now, of course. But hindsight is twenty twenty. And he really does love her. With all his heart. He allowed Orpheus his chance, because she asked. It says quite a bit about him." He always felt a bit protective over Hades. The god had given him a home, and like him shared a bad reputation.
"I am sure you will and yes. I am allowed visits."

Lyra still wasn't too sure about Hades but with Thanatos championing for him maybe he wasn't so bad. And she supposed everyone got their wives in really creepy ways back then, as that was sort of how it was. Being a 21st Century woman just made it a little bit uncomfortable from Lyra's perspective. "Eros does have some tricky, confusing arrows," Lyra conceded finally.
She picked up her menu to look at it, smiling at Thanatos brightly. "Then you'll be able to come visit me once I'm there! If I haven't already talked your ear off in the next fifty years!" She looked down at the open menu in her arms and her jaw literally dropped. "Oh my god!" she hissed under her breath so only he would hear her. "Have you seen these prices??"

He nodded, "he does." Then he shook his head, "don't worry about the prices. This night is meant to be special." He paused, "although I will admit Hades is lending me a hand." He shrugged, "it is hard to refuse someone like that, so please. Have what you like."
Smiling he set his hand on hers, "and I'd hardly ever get tired of you. Not now and not in fifty years. You will see me. But I'd rather not discuss the future like that. It puts me a bit off."

If Thanatos said not to worry about money, then Lyra would try not to think about it. Still she decided to order one of the less expensive items on the menu anyway.
She smiled warmly at Thanatos and his hand on hers. "I'll stop," she promised him. "I'm sorry, I just get sort of swept up in this whole new world."

"You're right," Lyra took with, with a small embarrassed smile and a shake of her head. "I should know that better than anyone really." She'd lost everyone to death but sometimes she still forgot how much that had hurt each time. It grew with distance and just turned into that familiar quiet longing. "So this is me and you enjoying the right now," she smiled across at him and then kissed his hand, leaving a light lipstick mark there. "Oh, sorry about that," she said quickly. "You're a bit red now."

He laughed and shrugged, "I don't think I mind one bit." He supposed he could try and find her parents in the Elysian Fields. If they believed it was a good chance they would be there. He imagined she may like that. But he wouldn't suggest it now.
When the waiter came he released Lyra's hand and ordered with a quiet voice, understanding the man's slight discomfort. He let Lyra order, smiling at her once the man left. "You mentioned your friend on your last journal. May I ask who he is?" He was curious, but didn't want to appear jealous.

"I'll introduce you to him," Lyra promised, her smile a little amused at Thanatos being awkward. "I have to have you meet all my friends now. Can't get away with not introducing them to my boyfriend." Yes, that word felt good about him. Lyra liked that. "I don't have very many close friends, but Jimmy's one of the important ones. And since you're important too..." she smiled at Thanatos but then the smile dropped a little. "Oh, but I didn't tell him about any of- this. Not the dating - well, I haven't mentioned that either because we only just started that - but the god parts. So... don't try and show him your wings or anything like that?"

Lyra grinned, enjoying that he kept taking any opportunity to touch her. He was a god, he'd lived for thousands of years and seen everything and yet here he was in a restaurant and he wanted her. It was a little overwhelming, but in a good way. "Good," she said. "The wings will be better to wait and I shall tell them that this is my boyfriend Thane, and he's amazingly sweet and really cute and I really like him." Her smiling was hurting her cheeks a little and it was all his fault for being so completely adorable and wonderful.

He smiled to that. He liked how she saw him, "more praise then I think I have earned." Happily he curled his fingers around hers, glad he was allowed to do this now. He nodded, "he does." Then he shook his head, "don't worry about the prices. This night is meant to be special." He paused, "although I will admit Hades is lending me a hand." He shrugged, "it is hard to refuse someone like that, so please. Have what you like."
Smiling he set his hand on hers, "and I'd hardly ever get tired of you. Not now and not in fifty years. You will see me. But I'd rather not discuss the future like that. It puts me a bit off."

If Thanatos said not to worry about money, then Lyra would try not to think about it. Still she decided to order one of the less expensive items on the menu anyway.
She smiled warmly at Thanatos and his hand on hers. "I'll stop," she promised him. "I'm sorry, I just get sort of swept up in this whole new world."

"You're right," Lyra took with, with a small embarrassed smile and a shake of her head. "I should know that better than anyone really." She'd lost everyone to death but sometimes she still forgot how much that had hurt each time. It grew with distance and just turned into that familiar quiet longing. "So this is me and you enjoying the right now," she smiled across at him and then kissed his hand, leaving a light lipstick mark there. "Oh, sorry about that," she said quickly. "You're a bit red now."

He laughed and shrugged, "I don't think I mind one bit." He supposed he could try and find her parents in the Elysian Fields. If they believed it was a good chance they would be there. He imagined she may like that. But he wouldn't suggest it now.
When the waiter came he released Lyra's hand and ordered with a quiet voice, understanding the man's slight discomfort. He let Lyra order, smiling at her once the man left. "You mentioned your friend on your last journal. May I ask who he is?" He was curious, but didn't want to appear jealous.

Lyra smiled with a little curiosity, wondering what Thanatos was thinking about. "Jimmy," she said with a nod. "I've known him for a few years, he's lovely. And he's just a friend, that's all," she assured Thanatos.

He shook his head, "oh no it's nothing like that. I don't want to sound like I am jealous of who you keep company with, I was honestly curious. I would like to know your friends. They have known you longer then I have." He winced a little, "I hope I am phrasing that right. I don't want to seem possessive or paranoid. Like I said, I am very new at this."

"I'll introduce you to him," Lyra promised, her smile a little amused at Thanatos being awkward. "I have to have you meet all my friends now. Can't get away with not introducing them to my boyfriend." Yes, that word felt good about him. Lyra liked that. "I don't have very many close friends, but Jimmy's one of the important ones. And since you're important too..." she smiled at Thanatos but then the smile dropped a little. "Oh, but I didn't tell him about any of- this. Not the dating - well, I haven't mentioned that either because we only just started that - but the god parts. So... don't try and show him your wings or anything like that?"

He shook his head, "it's usually something I reserve for those who notice something odd about me, or have questions I can only answer one way. I usually leave it until I know someone a bit better, or they understand." He smiled to her, "and I think I will like being introduced as such." Not able to resist he went to set his hands back over hers. He was sure by now the entire restaurant had noticed, but he didn't care.

Lyra grinned, enjoying that he kept taking any opportunity to touch her. He was a god, he'd lived for thousands of years and seen everything and yet here he was in a restaurant and he wanted her. It was a little overwhelming, but in a good way. "Good," she said. "The wings will be better to wait and I shall tell them that this is my boyfriend Thane, and he's amazingly sweet and really cute and I really like him." Her smiling was hurting her cheeks a little and it was all his fault for being so completely adorable and wonderful.

He smiled to that. He liked how she saw him, "more praise then I think I have earned." Happily he curled his fingers around hers, glad he was allowed to do this now. "I look forward to meeting him." he'd have to get his story straight again and remember his mortal alias but it wasn't a hard thing to do. "Any more questions or curiosities?"

"I think you've earned all of it," Lyra smiled at him. "You met me when I was going through a really hard time and you've only ever been wonderful since." Sure, there was the terrifying her part but that wasn't really his fault.
Lyra considered if she had any more questions tonight about his world and finally she said, "just one," quite seriously. Then she smiled and asked, "can we go walking in the park after dinner?"

"I don't brush anyone off," Lyra smiled at him. "I like new friends, especially the type I'm allowed to talk about creepy things with." She chuckled softly. "You're very good like that."
At his assent she grinned, squeezing his hand again. They could walk hand in hand like a couple. (she didn't think she was ready to say 'couple' out loud yet though.)
