Who: Apollo, Dionysus
What: Catching up over dinner
When: Friday evening
Where: Upscale restaurant
Warnings: Dionysus being himself and Apollo eventually spazzing out, I'm sure.
For the most part, Apollo and Dionysus seemed to be back to their normal routine. In the end, Apollo guessed half a century of not talking wasn't a lot of time when you'd been brothers for as long as they had. He could admit now that he'd missed their back and forth, though he'd never say it out loud.
They hadn't seen each other since Apollo had brought his half-brother back from the brink, so a quick call had been made, plans had been set, and he found himself at a rather nice Manhattan restaurant waiting for Dionysus.

Dionysus was bouncing back quicker than expected, a lot quicker than the last time he'd been dumped in a mental institution. Though he and Apollo had their spats, their flirtations, the world seemed back in orbit when they were together. The world went off balance when they were avoiding each other.
He'd dressed in his finest (perhaps looking far more girly for the rest of the restaurant for his own good), glossed up and sparkly. He walked in with that sashay to his hips causing heads to turn as he spotted Apollo.
"Afternoon, handsome," he teased with a bright smile, sliding his hand across his shoulders before taking his seat.

Apollo had long ago stopped rolling his eyes at Dionysus' theatrics. He'd wear what he wanted despite Apollo being uncomfortable, so he'd just stopped being uncomfortable. It made his life a lot easier.
He merely raised an eyebrow at the greeting, his eyes following his brother as he sat across from him. "Hello, dearest. Enjoying yourself today?"

"Why, yes I am," he spoke crossing one leg over the other in a very ladylike fashion. He liked getting under Apollo's skin, it was one of his charms. The more Dionysus pressed and flirted the more Apollo just tried to ignore or dismiss it. It was cute really.
Propping his elbow on the table, chin in hand he gave Apollo a wink. "How are you?"

"I can't complain." He could totally complain. "Things have been busy, but I'm dealing."
He leaned back in his chair slightly, looking like he hadn't been busy at all, like he had no responsibilities in the world. Summer was approaching, the sun was staying out longer, and Apollo was starting to look like he'd been on a particularly long and enjoyable beach vacation.
"How's your wife? Are you out of Aphrodite's place, yet?" He couldn't imagine that Ariadne wanted to stay around Aphrodite any longer than she had to.

"Busy," Dionysus waved off with his hand and pursed lips. "Avoiding more like," there was still a little hurt there, but for the most part Dionysus had gotten well over it and back on track. "It's good to have you back," because his head wasn't spinning out of control into the dark places of his mind.
"We're back at my place. She's a little jealous of you too, handsome," Dionysus grinned.

"Genuinely busy," he corrected, "not like it matters." Sometimes, it seemed that the only thing that mattered was Dionysus, and it was easy for Apollo to get sucked into family affairs. He'd gotten a more time-consuming job to combat some of that, but nowadays it didn't seem to help. "Considering we didn't talk for almost fifty years, I'd say two meetings in as many months is a huge feat."
He groaned when Dionysus replied about Ariadne. "Really? It's got to be because you're feeding ideas into her head, brother, because I'm certainly not putting off any vibes in your direction."

"How much fun can scrubs and little old ladies be, Pollo?" Dionysus sat back in his chair making eyes at the young waitress who dropped her menus on the way over toward their table. She was new and had hardly remembered to say her name when she greeted her customers. This was only her second table, but she was worried she'd screw something up.
Dionysus took a hold of her hand, soothingly rubbing his thumb across her knuckles. "It's okay, doll." She spoke long enough with a grin on her face to ask them what they wanted to drink and then give them a moment.
Dionysus propped both elbows on the table now, chin on both hands as he looked across the table at his brother. "It's the attention you get, handsome. She wants me to herself." Dionysus waved Apollo off. "You really are a bore when you want to be. Can't even comment on the new outfit. I wore this especially for you," he teased.

"I work in an emergency room, Dionysus," he said, dryly. "It's a bit different than that."
He watched Dionysus moon over the waitress and folded his own menu in front of him. "You just order for me. It's easier." He'd let his half-brother choose this time - it was one of his specialties, after all. When they wanted to schedule a musical outing, it'd be all Apollo.
"Well, she is your wife." Like that mattered to them. Their own father was married, and yet each of them had been born to different women. Greeks didn't particularly hold marriage in as high a regard as other cultures. He continued to not comment on Dionysus' clothing choice. In his own way, he was goading him back.
"I have a life outside of work, you know. I have a baby." Again. Perhaps Dionysus wasn't aware of that fact. Or he was, but just took Apollo's track record with children at face value and assumed he left all rearing of the baby to her mother.

Dionysus lined a finger to his mouth seductively ordering for he and his brother with ease. He handed over the menus and then ordered he and Apollo a drink. He wanted Apollo to loosen up.
He turned back with a wide-toothed grin, twirling a lock of his dark hair between his fingers. "Yes and my little star will always shine for me." There was a slight sparkle in his eye at the words, fluttery and sugary like the romantic he was.
The drinks were brought and placed in front of them, in which Dionysus' eyes seemed to jump even bigger, a devious purr on his lips as he took a swallow. He swishes his pinky around giving Apollo a interested but amused look. "You aren't the fatherly type big boy."

Dionysus was laying it on thick, and Apollo's eyes finally raised skyward. They were so different; sometimes, he wondered how the got along at all, let alone so well (when they weren't fighting, of course).
"Really? Been a father a few times." More than a few, but he'd lost count long ago. He didn't know what it was like to be married like Dionysus did. He didn't want to know - once a relationship passed the initial stages, Apollo either got bored, panicked, or the object of his interest died or turned into an inanimate object.
"Times have changed. She shouldn't have to shoulder all the responsibility."

Apollo's reaction caused Dionysus to laugh lightly, almost enough to be considered a girlish giggle. He liked to tease and watch Apollo squirm as if it really should make him uncomfortable. He sat back in his seat, crossing his legs again and took another swallow of his drink, taking it like a lover's lips to his own.
"So have I," he pressed, "I bet you can't even name half of them or the mothers." Dionysus was a little different than his strong brother. Dionysus could remember every relationship (girl or boy). He fell hard and fast for those he was interested in, and while they either drifted apart or the world changed, he was the hopeless romantic taking every one with as much compassion as the next. The only different one in his bunch was the fair-haired Ariadne. Ariadne would be the one he returned to.
"Oh yes, because Apollo is so strong," he teased. "I have a mind to think you want to run," he said with a amused snort.

"Choose your words carefully," Apollo warned, "before you say something you can't come back from." To rib and joke was one thing, but to call him out in such a way was unacceptable, fellow Olympian or not.
The fact remained that Apollo remembered all of his children, the products of fast, hard romances. He loved like the sun attributed to him, and when one got too close, they eventually were burned.
It might have been selfish, to prove that he could, but Apollo genuinely wanted to help raise Cherie. Truth was, Apollo was beginning to feel the old panic sink in. He was fighting a deep-seated urge to run away and never look back. He'd hoped he could confide in his brother in this. Clearly, he'd been wrong.

"Because we know what happened last time," his own words throwing out their own bitter lash. Dionysus threw it around as Apollo being so serious all the time, when the wine god just wanted to goad him to see how long it would take before he got uncomfortable.
"Then what does bother you, dear brother?" he asked swirling his finger around in his drink and one raised brow.
