WHO: Euterpe & Apollo
WHEN: Saturday
WHERE: A helpfully undefined park somewhere in the city.
WHAT: A musing Muse (i'msorry.)
WARNINGS: tba
As Muses their place was to be neutral, to inspire and record but never to be involved in the wars of man or god. Or at least that was supposed to be their place. Clio said that the last time everything had been in an uproar they had been attacked. Euterpe hadn't been in the city then or with her sisters so she could only take History's word for it. (But if Euterpe knew anything it was that she trusted the words of History.)
Clio said to run, to be safe, but where would Euterpe go? She had no immortal friends not-Greek who was strong enough to protect her should something happen. If a Muse wanted to be caught, what would stop anyone?
So instead of making any move to run she sat on a park bench and watched the mortals, wishing she could be as free as they were. Were she a mortal and not a muse there would be nothing to hold her to this coming war.

Apollo walked briskly through the city, ignoring public transportation completely. It was much better for him to walk - it let him release some of the nervous energy that was building up inside of him. Since receiving Hermes' message, Apollo had been tense. He'd been in contact with Artemis, with his mother, but none of them had made any of their decisions public knowledge yet. He'd hoped that with time, the uproar against the status quo would die down, or that some would come out in favor of Zeus. He'd had very little luck.
The park was full of people, stuffed with mortals enjoying their weekends with families, time with loved ones. As much as he tried, Apollo could not ignore the streak of jealousy that came to him as he saw them.
His whole body stopped when he saw Euterpe. For a moment, he forgot to breathe. He didn't expect to see any of the Mousai, not now. Not when they'd all said they were on their separate ways out of the city. In a park in broad daylight was pretty much the opposite of going into hiding.
So he continued his pace, but changed his course. He stepped over to Euterpe purposefully, his mouth set in a thin line. "What are you still doing here?"

Euterpe had been deep in thought and it made her miss the presence of her brother until he stood right above her. She frowned down at her hands. "I'm sorry," she told him. "I needed air, I needed to think."

He sighed, glancing away. "I know. I know," he repeated, not knowing what else to say. He was worried, mainly, though no one had made any moves, yet.
He sat next to her, forcing himself to relax against the back of the bench. "I'm sorry. You just...surprised me, is all. I didn't expect to see anyone."

Without looking at him, Euterpe slid her hand into his. The mortals moved around them with ease and to them Apollo and Euterpe would look like nothing more than some sad, attractive couple. They'd never have passed among mankind like this in Greece, not without work. Apollo, as much as Euterpe loved him, wasn't all powerful any more.
Not knowing, what to say she looked at her brother and said, "I wish this wasn't happening." It was a pointless thing to say and to think, but Euterpe could think of nothing else. This was taking her away from her family just as she'd found them again. It was dragging her from the side of her beloved golden brother, the one who had taught her to sing.

Apollo tightened his hand around hers, offering her a sad smile. They were all much too old, too far away from home to still be acting this way. There were so many younger, more powerful immortals that controlled this city. But still, they fought like they ruled from a mountain.
"I want nothing more than to leave the fighting to others, but I don't - I can't let this happen. If Hera - or anyone else - gains power, who's to say what might happen?" He expected the worst from this, but he didn't dare tell Euterpe that. It would only cause her to worry, and he needed her to be okay. And if he said it aloud, it would become real to him, and he wasn't ready to deal with that just yet. "I need you all safe."

"We'll be safe," Euterpe promised him. "We'll scatter far away and stay quiet." He voiced cracked a little and she turned her gaze back to the people in the park, her free hand moving quickly to wipe at the corner of her eye.
"And maybe," Euterpe said, trying to sound hopeful, "we'll find the others wherever we are and bring them back to you. All nine together."

"That would be fantastic." It had been so long since they'd all been together. The idea of everyone coming back was a small glimmer on an otherwise dark day.
He released her hand, but only so that he could pull her in under his arm. "This will be fine, Euterpe. Think of it like well-deserved vacation."

Euterpe curled in against Apollo's side, resting her cheek against his chest as she smiled. "If this was a vacation then you'd have bikini-clad muses on a beach somewhere laughing as you seduced all the local girls."

"Hm." He grinned, brushing Euterpe's hair behind her ear. That was a fun thought. "Let's plan to do that. Back home - Greece has the best beaches. And the best girls."

"Okay," Euterpe smiled up at him, moving so she could see him properly. "I'll hold you to that. When this is all over we'll go to Greece. And you and me," she said as she poked him playfully in the side, "we're going to do karaoke."

He twisted as her finger landed in his side, laughing now. "There's no karaoke bar on this planet that could contain the amazing power of our singing." Not that he was full of himself, no.
He leaned back on the bench again, his arms spread out across the top, behind Euterpe. "And if we did a duet? Forget it. Heads would explode."
