Achilles knew that the Olympians swore each other's backs even when they were in the wrong. He was not about to back down when he was under not influence. He loathed to see others used as chess pieces in order to make a statement. Hermes and Peitho had abused Patroclus in the lowest ways possible. That was not okay. No matter who they were. It had always irked the old warrior when soldiers and kings abused their spoils. They were people. Even the lowest of human life did not deserve that kind of punishment. He would never be okay with that, especially when it involved those he loved the most.
Patroclus may have not taken a stand, and now Briseis was also suffering, but Achilles would. He would stand tall if Ares found the means to use his fists to make a point. It seemed Olympians knew no other way than to pound into the ground when they were offended. Hermes lied. Made a fool of the solid warrior when he spoke the truth. So be it then.
He had to keep Briseis away from this or she would panic. Ares had just shown up a lot quicker than it seemed possible these days. The Olympian must have been bored to take on something that was of no use to him. Achilles had angered Zeus before and on far more viable terms than this. This time Achilles had been in the right.
