David was on the stairs checking his plants when he thought he heard a scream. He stopped and looked up, about to call out. Then there was a thump and a second scream, this time louder. He dropped the watering can and ran down, heading for the living room, bursting in suddenly.
"Bridget!" he called, running to where she lay on the carpet and holding her shoulder. "What happened??"
