George kept his eyes on the ground for most of the subway ride. He figured it was safer that way. There wasn't anything to get envious about on the floor of a dirty subway car. (He'd heard the tubes in London were nicer, which figured. The Limey got everything good--damn it.) With his eyes closed and his iPod cranked up, he could exist in his own little bubble until he got to Kindness.

He walked quickly to her place, still keeping his eyes down. He didn't care if it made him look sort of antisocial and serial killer-ish, it was better than breaking some stranger's jaw because he had a hot dog and George didn't. He knocked sharply on Kindness' door when he finally reached it, trying to school his expression into something that wasn't desperation.
