Who: Eleanor of Aquitaine & Katherine Howard
What: We're not talking about Henry. (AKA, Eleanor being maternal)
When: Thursday afternoon
Where: Restaurant, then fancy shops somewhere
Knowing that Henry VIII was in the city irritated Eleanor to no end. It was thanks to that man that every last member of her and Henry's line had been wiped out, something she would never be able to forgive, or forget. But as bad as that was, she couldn't even imagine being married to him, like Katherine had been. And then to have been killed by him...it was probably safe to say their combined dislike could power a city.
So she'd dropped Katherine a line, asking if she wanted to meet for lunch and some shopping, and cleared her schedule for the afternoon. Katherine sounded like she needed both a friend and a maternal figure, and amidst the tangled royal family trees of Europe, they were probably related.
She arrived and sat down, ordering a glass of wine for herself as she waited for Katherine to arrive. She wasn't in any hurry.
Katherine did arrive, a little late as she usually was. Her hair was a little haphazard but she was wearing a sundress and she looked unusually cheerful despite the fact that she was terrified that Henry was in the city.
"Eleanor!" she called, grinning away and pulling off her sunglasses. "Hi!" As she sped towards Eleanor's table, she wobbled a little on her high heels. "Oh man, you wouldn't know I was a dancer today, gosh!"
Eleanor looked up and couldn't help but smile, after having been in meetings all morning, Katherine was a breath of fresh air. "Hello, Katherine," she called in reply. "Please, have a seat. Your dress is lovely."
She rose slightly in case Katherine fell, but she seemed to regain her balance well enough. "It's alright," she said. "We all have our off moments. Would you like some wine? I can call the waiter back over?"
Katherine sailed the rest of the way to her seat and she plunked down easily enough. "Probably wine isn't a good idea," she giggled. "Oooh, pineapple juice! I like pineapples, they are so pokey!"
