Who:

Helios and Rhode

What:

Helios goes with Rhode to her appointment and waits for her in the waiting room.

When:

Monday early afternoon

Doctor's office

What little Helios had heard from Rhode was by phone or the computer. There was a disconnect now that he hadn't quite felt before in their relationship. She might have never blamed him for being like her father, but the point of the matter was she brought it up at a time that was very emotional for her. Helios had stood his ground on his view of the situation with her half-sibling and things had only escalated over time. Now Rhode had spent a good month (maybe more) with Aphrodite. It didn't sit with him because Aphrodite deceived people.

It had been quite some time since Rhode had gone to see the doctor while he waited patiently. On the outside he seemed quite calm, holding his hands in his lap, rubbing one thumb over the other. It was the only repetitive action he did before sitting back in his seat watching the other people that popped in and out of the sitting area.

There was an elderly man to his left who every five minutes hacked in his throat, swallowed and then chewed his lip. Across a few feet was a teenage girl with her mother, plugged in with her headphones while the mother thumbed through a magazine. Helios was very observant to all the little details around him. It was his own situation that he didn't seem to want to know all the little nitpicking details about. Part of him was worried of what would happen when Rhode returned from that doctor's visit and where they went from here. He wanted to take her home, she had said she wanted to go home, but Helios wasn't sure what that meant for her anymore. Things had changed. Poseidon was always putting a rift between them.

Rhode was more than ready to be done with her appointment, she felt like all that had happened was she got poked at, prodded, and peered at. But the doctor seemed satisfied with her progress, merely told her to keep the healing wound clean, and to come back if there were any problems. She nodded and shook his hand as he left, swinging her legs on the table and twisting her hands. She pulled out her phone and texted Benthesikyme, who only tolerated it for a few texts before telling her to get out there and face the music.

Rhode pulled a face at her phone and slipped it into her bag. Squaring her shoulders, she pulled her purse onto her shoulder and left the exam room, coming back out into the waitong room and finding Helios. She put a hand on his shoulder and said, "Looks like everything's OK. Let's go home, love."

Helios stood quickly when Rhode returned, offering her his hand as they proceeded outside. He clung to her like glue, but there was still that unspoken air between them. He felt uncomfortable and that wasn't ever the way he wanted to be around her. In some ways he would have preferred a memory lapse right now. It would erase the things he didn't want to remember. This gap was one of them.

Lacing his fingers tightly in hers he squeezed her hand. "Don't go for so long..." he stated feeling the light hit against his skin the moment they stepped outside.

It felt good to be leaving the hospital with Helios, going back to their apartment and Teddy. Truthfully, she hadn't meant to be gone for so long, but one thing had led to another, and she'd just...stayed with Aphrodite. She certainly didn't lack for company, and while it was nice, she'd really just been gathering strength to go home.

She squeezed his hand as they walked out into the sun and replied, "Never again. I really am sorry for staying so long."

Helios pulled her hand up, kissing the top. "I don't like this Rhode. When you're angry at me for so long." He stopped where they walked, pulling her to face him. Gently of course as she was still sore. He pulled a strand of her hair that blew against her face from the light fall breeze. "I just want to make you happy."
