Who: George and Padraig
Where: Padraig's farm
When: Backdated to just after George/Lust happened
What: "Paaaadraaaaaaig, why is my life so haaaaaard?"

George wasn't quite sure what his emotions were, let alone how to feel about them. There was fear and a healthy amount of shame, along with plenty of irritation and some, well, lust. Untangling any of it seemed too hard, so he just laid on his brother's couch and stared at the ceiling instead.

He grunted as he heard his brother come into the room. Besides promising Padraig that he wouldn't try to sleep with Euterpe (which he never would, because he wasn't a complete asshole, for God's sake), they hadn't really spoken about what had happened. George supposed he probably should, because who could he talk about it with if not Padraig? But lying on the couch really did seem so much easier.

Padraig had simply let George be. He didn't want to force his brother to speak, especially if he was still working through his feelings.

He did, however, occasionally bring George things to eat and drink, because letting his brother just waste away there on the sofa wasn't on Padraig's list of things he wanted to accomplish with his eternal life.

"Brought you soup and soda bread," he said, setting them on the coffee table before claiming the chair opposite his brother. "There's tea too."

"Mrph," George grunted, pulling himself into a sitting position. Or at least a slumped position. He stared at the soup. "Padraig, why do I keep sleeping with evil people?"

He folded his hands across his chest and gave his brother a sympathetic look. "I could suggest chastity, but you know how well that's working out for me right now."

"All I wanted was a date," George muttered into the pillow. "And then all I wanted was a one-night stand with a Sin, and now I'm worried something terrible will happen."

"She can't stay in England for very long," Padraig tried to soothe him. "I think she already got what she wanted. She got you to want a date and a one-night stand."

George made a low, whining noise that was mostly muffled by the pillow. "Sometimes, I don't think the 21st century has been good for me. There was a time that I would have just thrown someone aggressively pursuing me out a window rather than deal with it. A ground floor window, but still."

"I'm not entirely sure that would have solved the problem either," he said, leaning forward. "You know you didn't do anything wrong...don't you?"

"I feel like I did," George admitted. "I suppose I have the Church to thank for that."

Padraig couldn't really say much against the church's idea of chastity, since he still abided by it. It was true though, it was the fault of the church. "You're allowed to make your own choices. We've lived hundreds of years and we'll probably live hundreds more. This will pass."

"I just hope she's done with me," George said, finally reaching for the bread. "Some relationships I've been in--ones that I probably shouldn't have been in--the other person was fond of me. I don't think Lust is fonder of me than any of the other people she'd kill."

"Which is why she'll probably forget all of this and move on fairly soon," Padraig said, attempting to be helpful. "It would probably help if the Yank would come to his senses and stopped insisting on sleeping with her sister."

"He says he's in love with her," George said. "Her sister, not Lust. He's going to get beaten to death by his lady love, and then where will that leave him? Lucifer's already tortured him."

Padraig made a face at the very idea. "He's in love with a sin? Do...you think he ever stops and says that out loud just to see how ridiculous it sounds? I can understand wanting them onside, but how can he see a future there?"

"I have no idea," George grumbled around his bread. "He doesn't have the common sense to realize that wanting to help people isn't the same as wanting to befriend them, so he decided forming an emotional attachment to the Sin he's most prone to was just something he needed to do." George shook his head. "It won't end well for him. No matter how much he'd like it to."

"No," Padraig said sadly. "It really won't." He ran his fingers through his hair and smiled warily at his brother. "Did you at least enjoy your time with Lust?"

"For a little while, I thought I was about to die, but overall, yes," George said, ducking his head to hide a smile. "She is actually surprisingly nice company when she's not threatening you."

"Just don't fall in love," Padraig said with a chuckle. "I'm sure she's nice enough, though I hope to never meet her. And I am glad you had a good time, despite who it was with."

"Don't be silly, Padraig, you know I'm dead inside," George said, expression completely serious. Then he laughed and continued eating his soup. "Thank you for putting up with me and my moping."

Padraig just chuckled at George and then he smiled fondly. "You know I always will. Somewhere along the way it became an obligation. And it's hardly surprising, considering the turn of events. You can hide out here as long as you like though. Very few people know of it's existence, let alone it's location."
