The idea had been percolating in his mind ever since Kat had mentioned she would basically be moving in when they got back from Greece. They had spent two weeks together travelling now and it had been amazing. He figured there was another way to make the time memorable, though he waited until Thomas and Jamie were with them to actually put his plans into action. He wanted Kat to have support either way this ended up going.

After a spectacular meal with their friends at their seaside hotel, Victor asked Kat if she wanted to take a night walk on the beach alone with him. They took their leave of Jamie and Thomas and strolled across the sand, close to the waves. It was absolutely beautiful. He wrapped one arm around her and pulled her close. "I love the ocean," he commented, a little stunned by the beauty of everything around him.

So far this was the best vacation she'd had in a very long time. Which was still objective, but she'd spend time travelling and getting to know Victor a bit more. And he seemed to be alright with having her near, so she was fairly sure the idea of spending more time living with him would pan out.

There was something about the sea at night though and she smiled, setting one arm around his waist. "Somewhere down there I'd like to think there lives a Kraken." It was a little odd, but it was how she tended to work. "Or Cthulhu. It is amazing though. And being able to see the stars is awesome." She gave a sigh, "you know at a certain distance it's like they're mixing."

"Let's hope if the dark ones rise, he eats us first then," he chuckled. "It is like they're mixing. Gorgeous. Have you been having a good time?"

She laughed, "well he will if we worship him. So you know, go Cthulhu. Although seriously on the list of never ever be real, I think that one tops it." She nodded, "the best. This was a great idea."

"Which is good to know," Victor said honestly. "I'd hate to run into Cthulhu."

He smiled as she replied in the affirmative to his question, and they continued on in silence for a few minutes before he spoke again. "There's something else I want to ask you."

"One does not simply run into Cthulhu," she added with a smirk. "Sorry, I had to. I am way too geeky for my own good." She didn't mind the silence, as the sound of the waves was relaxing. Living close to the ocean was probably really lovely. "Sure, what's up?"

He was nervous to ask her, considering he had done so before while under the influence of Eros. This was different though. This was his decision and while some might say it was a little early, it didn't feel that way to him. Their lives were so strange and unpredictable anyway, it would be nice to have something solid behind it all.

He stopped walking and turned to face her, smiling down at her. "I love you very much, Kat. And I was hoping you would agree to be my wife."

It was certainly unexpected. She'd thought he'd ask something else, not this. And she knew this wasn't like the time with Eros. She could hear what the reactions could be but all that didn't really matter.

When she was a little less surprised she blinked. "Holy shit." she gave a laugh, clearly stunned, "yes. Of course. I think I need to sit down now." Which she did on the ground.

Victor laughed when she swore and then he sank to the sand in relief when she said yes. He pulled her into his arms, grinning. "I'm so glad! I don't mind if we put off actually getting married for awhile, I just...I really wanted to ask."

The surprise was getting replaced by joy and happiness and laughing she returned the hug. "No. No that's fine. I just...didn't expect this. Clearly." She gave another laugh and drew back enough to give him a kiss. "Still stuck on holy shit. And also it means you're stuck with me." She shook her head, "wow yeah. Still stuck on holy shit."

"I love being stuck with you, if you want to put it that way." He leaned down to kiss her before saying, "I didn't get you a ring because it feels slightly rude to pick it out myself and force you to wear it, unless you'd like me to. But I thought you might like to pick it out yourself."

She smiled into the kiss and set her hands on his cheeks, "I'm the luckiest ever. Just so you know. You're amazing. And that sounds rather nice. And awesome. Nothing diamond though." Smiling she set her arms around his neck and her head on his shoulder. "Best vacation ever."

Victor wasn't incredibly keen on diamonds either, considering how they were mined, though he would have gotten her a diamond ring if she had wanted it. It made him smile to himself that she didn't. "I think I'm pretty damn lucky too! I was terrified you might say no. I just...I believe in us." It felt so nice to be able to say.

It was more then nice to hear and she went to take his hands. Clearly she was helping him, which felt amazing, and now she wouldn't have to let go. "Oh yeah say no to the best thing that's ever happened. More faith you should have." She smirked, "and I do too. Man Jamie's going to have a day. He can be the first to know."

She spoke like Yoda and it made him chuckle before squeezing her hands. "We can go tell them now if you'd like. I think they said they were headed to the pool. Though I don't mind staying here a little longer if you'd rather."

"Something I gotta do before we go back." With a smile she leaned close for a long kiss. She only drew back when she needed air and grinned, "Always wanted to kiss someone on the beach." She traced her fingers along his features before sitting back. "I don't mind staying, or telling them. Wish I could do both."

Victor felt giddy and pleased and when she kissed him, his heart skipped a beat. "I liked it," he said honestly, leaning in for another kiss. "I wish we could do both too, though maybe we should head back anyway. Or else they might decide we were swept away by the sea."

It wasn't at all bad to return the kiss and she smiled at him. She was stupidly happy and she knew she wouldn't stop smiling for a long time. "That would be bad, but we can always come back." she offered with a grin.

After a moment she got up and offered her hands. "Let's go have drinks to celebrate."

"Sounds like a wonderful idea," he said, taking her hands. Once up, he wrapped an arm around her and took his time ambling back to the hotel.

The pool was pretty empty, which was nice. Most of the other guests seemed to prefer a different pool at night which left the one closer to their room essentially empty. Thomas was lying back in a lounge chair on the poolside, wearing just his swimming trunks. They were dry, however, showing he hadn't yet gotten into the pool. Instead he was resting with a washcloth which had been dipped in cold water resting on his forehead to distract him from the fact that his brain was throbbing.

Ever since leaving for Europe, he had had a headache on and off. In Italy he had even abstained from trying the wine (something he was very sad about) because he didn't want to make his head any worse. Indeed on the table beside him was a glass of water instead of alcohol. He still looked up and smiled when Victor and Kat walked in.

Jamie, on the other hand, was floating on his back in the deep end. He liked swimming, underwater was peaceful and, thankfully, right now empty of people. He flipped over and slid under the water, popping up next to his dad's chair.

"Feeling any better?" he asked. "Head still hurting?"

He looked up and grinned at Kat and Victor as they approached. "Hey," he said, waving.

She was worried for Thomas. He was obviously not feeling great and she hoped it wasn't messing with his vacation.

Grinning she returned the wave and walked to the edge of the pool. "Hey! I have news if you're willing to leave your water home." She gave Thomas a worried look then "and if you're feeling up to it."

"I'm feeling fine," he assured both Jamie and Kat. He sat and put the washcloth aside, ignoring the pain in his head. He was actually quite glad for the distraction. "You two look happy! What's the news?"

Victor just smiled at Kat, letting her tell it.

"I suppose I can fuse my tail back into legs for you," Jamie laughed, hauling himself out of the pool. He grabbed his towel and rubbed it over his face and hair, which decided to stick up in all directions.

"But yes, do tell! What's the news?"

"I'm engaged!" She'd meant to say it a bit more eloquently but she was too exited and happy. Grinning she looked to Victor, "he asked. Said yes. Probably won't be for a bit but this is the best thing."

Thomas' face split into a grin and he rose from the chair. "Congratulations!" He figured Kat would want to hug Jamie first, so he went to hug Victor, despite being all topless. Victor didn't even notice as he embraced his friend happily. "This is amazing news!"

"Preaching to the choir," Victor laughed happily.

"That's great news!" Jamie said. "Congratulations!" He dried off his torso so he wouldn't get Kat all wet, then wrapped her in a hug. "That's awesome, I'm happy for you."

Happily she hugged Jamie, glad that no one was saying it was too soon. "Thanks!" She released Jamie to go hug Thomas. "And it is great news. I suggest drinks to celebrate!"

Thomas wrapped his arms around her, giving her a little squeeze before letting her go. "You two are going to make my face ache from smiling," he informed both of them.

"That's the risk you take being around us. I'm going to head into the bar and order something. Champagne or wine or something else?"

"Just water for me," Thomas said with a smile. "But I'll still toast with you!"

"A happy ache, though," Jamie said, pulling on his t-shirt. "And I'm cool with whatever you guys like."

"Wine for me please," she leaned up to kiss Victor before letting him go. She still couldn't stop smiling. She went to sit down besides Thomas and grinned at Jamie, "like I said it won't be for a while but you're totally my best man. It's totally in the best friend contract."

"Wine it is!" Victor shuffled off to fetch their drinks.

Thomas was glad to sit down again, though he was careful to continue smiling. He didn't want them to worry about him in the midst of all this. Besides, Kat had just said Jamie should be her best man. He squeaked a little and clapped his hands. "He will be so adorable! ...right, you're allowed to mock me for what just happened."

Jamie rolled his eyes, still grinning. "Only a little. And of course I will, KitKat. Pretty sure that's one of the first clauses in the contract. I'll get a suit and everything."

"Yeah totally going to give you shit for it, and you're going to look awesome in a suit Jamie." She was still smiling, and bounced a bit on the chair. "So ideas for rings. Something not too geeky."

"So not the one ring then?" Thomas asked with a laugh. "Do you have any favourite stones?"

Victor chose that point to return with two bottles of wine, one of white and one of red. He set them and the three goblets on the table before heading back in and returning once again with Thomas' water. "Voila, drinks!"

"I think you're one of like...three people I'd wear one for," Jamie told her. "Five, max."

"Oh, you beat me too it!" he laughed. "But fine, nothing too geeky. Let me think."

Jamie poured himself a glass of the white. He'd had some while they were in Italy, and discovered he'd rather liked it. "A toast," he said. "To Victor and Kat."

Smiling she went to hug Jamie, "and I love you for it. But I'll see. No plans yet. Might be geeky though."

She shrugged, "not diamond. I'll look online and see. I don't need something expensive, just something that means something." She took a glass and raised it. "And to two of my best friends."

Thomas raised his glass at the same time Victor did. They clinked them lightly together and Victor said, "and to my fiance."

"Don't make me cry!" Thomas warned them. He felt all happy and emotional.

"Cheers," Jamie said, sipping from his glass. He laughed then. "He'll do it, too. He's a happy crier."

The word fiancée just made her grin and she took Victor's hand. "Oh don't. I'll just start crying too. We don't need that." She leaned against Victor with a happy smile.

Thomas laughed and though he was a little choked up, he managed not to let any tears fall. He just loved everyone with him so much and they were all so happy and it was wonderful.

Victor wrapped one arm around Kat, saving the other for his wine. "Shall we drink lots of wine and relax by the pool?"

"This man has the good plans," Jamie agreed, taking the lounge chair next to his dad's. He was feeling right now that their trips had been a success, everyone was really happy and enjoying themselves.

She nodded to Jamie's comment, "he does have the greatest ideas." Smiling she leaned into Victor and set her free hand on his.

Thomas kicked back with his water, feeling like a bit of a square for not drinking, though he knew it was for the best. "If you all get drunk and decide to wrestle in the pool, I am not going in there after you."

"Drunk swimming does not sound like a good idea," Jamie piped up from his lawn chair. "Myself and I are staying right here, because with my luck, I'd crack my skull on the bottom of the pool."

"And I don't want to lose my best friend to that. That's just bad luck." grinning she sipped from her wine, "and not having a bathing suit right now would make drunk swimming a really bad idea so I think we're safe."

"You are all far wiser than I ever was under the influence," Thomas said, amazed. He would have been attempting risky diving had he allowed himself to get drunk at all these days.

Victor settled down in a chair himself and he held an arm out to bring Kat with him, perfectly content.
