WHO: Thomas, Jamie and Kat
WHAT: Going in for a test
WHEN: Friday the 1st
WHERE: Their house and then a...testy place...and then maybe a cafe or summat
WARNINGS: Blood and feels?
Thomas felt like he just might vomit every time he thought about the tests they were about to undertake. They had to give blood and then next week they had to go in for counselling while they waited for the results. Thomas wasn't entirely convinced the counselling would help. The only thing that would make him feel better was getting back two very negative results.
He had to be strong for his son, however, and so he was trying his best to smile. Kat had come over to offer moral support, and he was so grateful. "Everyone ready?"

"That sounds fun, we can all be nerds together," Jamie said. "And apparently, he can find dates all on his own. He doesn't need to steal people's boyfriends."

Thomas snorted at that. "Yes, Kat, I'm going to steal your boyfriend so we can drink no more than two beers and watch hobbits cavort together. I did mean for all of us." And then Jamie mentioned Lena and Thomas' cheeks coloured for a moment. "Yes yes, sometimes people find me oddly charming."

She held up her hands at Thomas' words. "Just making sure." she smiled then at Thomas' reaction. "Ah the great Casanova. Tell me more." She grinned at Jamie, knowing him to be the source of information.

"I met her in our kitchen, at about 7 in the morning," Jamie said. "I then proceeded to hightail it to his room and ask why there was a lady with bright pink hair sitting in our kitchen. Her name's Lena, she was actually pretty cool."

"She's an artist and very lovely," Thomas added. "Though far too blunt for poor Jamie's comfort."
Thomas opened his mouth to say something else, but their doctor walked in. She had talked to Thomas on the phone a few days ago and it was nice to see her in person. She didn't seem too scary despite being a doctor and a geneticist. Maybe this wouldn't be so horrible...
"Hello, my name is Doctor Sharon Freeman." She went to shake everyone's hand, ending with Thomas on the table. "I'm here for your blood."
Thomas appreciated her attempt to put him at ease. "I suppose I could spare some."

When the doctor finished drawing his blood she loosed the tourniquet and gave him a smiley face bandaid. "You seemed like someone who would appreciate our kids' range," she said with a smile.
"Very astute," he informed her, though his eyes were locked on the vial of blood which had just been in his body. And suddenly his skin was very pale.
"Are you feeling okay?" she asked him worriedly.
"Yep, just-" Thomas closed his eyes and leaned forward to take several deep breaths. "This is why I could never be a vampire."

He looked over at Kat and said, "Yeah, looks like. Let's do this thing."

Thomas climbed down from the exam table, feeling ridiculous. "Well here's where you can prove you're braver than I am," he joked to Jamie. Then he gave his son's shoulder a squeeze.
The doctor pulled a new lot of paper over the exam table and then patted it for Jamie to hop up. "Nice to meet you, Jamie."

"You should have seen his hair," he laughed. "Seriously, it was gravity-defying."

She repeated the process with Jamie as she had done for Thomas, and Thomas made the effort to keep talking all the way through it to distract himself.
"Her name is Lena and she's very nice. And I think my hair looked like I had stuck my finger in a light socket. I scared myself when I looked in the mirror. I am fairly sure Lena thought it was too amusing to warn me."
The doctor pulled the needle from Jamie's arm and unwrapped the tourniquet. "All finished."

"That's because it was pretty amusing," he agreed. "And she was pretty nice, I'm inclined to think well of anyone who magically appears behind me with coffee."
He got down off the table and pulled his shirt back on. "That wasn't so bad," he said.

"Now you both understand you need to attend the pre-results counselling for the next two weeks or the results will be withheld, correct?"
Thomas nodded to the doctor. "We'll be here."
"Then that's all for today. See you next week."
The moment she was out of the room, Thomas released Jamie and faced both of them. "She's not really my Lena, but she is like a magic coffee fairy. I think you'd like her a lot, Kat. Shall we go get something to eat, I'm starved."

"And a violin wizard," he added. "You probably would like her, Kat."
"Yes, eating, food," Jamie said. "Bacon and pancakes, gimme gimme, please."

He pulled out of the parking garage on the search for an appropriate diner. "Anyway, now that I have scarred you both. She's nice and maybe we'll go out. Let's talk about Jamie's boy some more."
