WHO: Thomas, Jamie and Kat
WHAT: Going in for a test
WHEN: Friday the 1st
WHERE: Their house and then a...testy place...and then maybe a cafe or summat
WARNINGS: Blood and feels?



Thomas felt like he just might vomit every time he thought about the tests they were about to undertake. They had to give blood and then next week they had to go in for counselling while they waited for the results. Thomas wasn't entirely convinced the counselling would help. The only thing that would make him feel better was getting back two very negative results.

He had to be strong for his son, however, and so he was trying his best to smile. Kat had come over to offer moral support, and he was so grateful. "Everyone ready?"

"Show off," Thomas joked, but he rose to give his son a hug.

"Now you both understand you need to attend the pre-results counselling for the next two weeks or the results will be withheld, correct?"

Thomas nodded to the doctor. "We'll be here."

"Then that's all for today. See you next week."

The moment she was out of the room, Thomas released Jamie and faced both of them. "She's not really my Lena, but she is like a magic coffee fairy. I think you'd like her a lot, Kat. Shall we go get something to eat, I'm starved."

"I tend to like most people," She smiled to them both, "and sounds fair enough to me. You can tell me more about these adventures of yours."

Jamie hugged his dad, then nodded as the doctor told them about the counselling.

"And a violin wizard," he added. "You probably would like her, Kat."

"Yes, eating, food," Jamie said. "Bacon and pancakes, gimme gimme, please."

"I don't even know if she's interested in anything more than...well you know. Maybe I'll ask," Thomas walked them both back to his car. "She has an electric violin. I didn't even know they did that," he said as he unlocked the doors.

"She sounds pretty impressive, and makes me wish I could play an instrument." She followed them and slid into the car once it was unlocked. "okay first, gross ew. Did not need to know. Second yeah they do electric pretty much everything."

"Right?!" Jamie said. "There's a line between blunt and hearing about your dad's sex life. Which is something I don't ever need to know about, ever. And I said pretty much the same thing, I cannot play an instrument to save my own soul."

"It's not my fault, I grew up with Emma Kemp as my mother!" he protested. His mother talked about sex like it was no big deal. Probably he should have seen it as a bigger deal at sixteen, but hindsight was what it was.

He pulled out of the parking garage on the search for an appropriate diner. "Anyway, now that I have scarred you both. She's nice and maybe we'll go out. Let's talk about Jamie's boy some more."

Laughing she shook her head, "so not an excuse. And nice distraction there Casanova." But she smiled at her friend, "but I'm still going to take his side. Tell us more."

"Augh, blindsiding!" Jamie protested. "So not fair, you're both ganging up on me." He flopped his head against the headrest. "Let's see...he's a film student, he's really smart. He wants to make movies that make people think."

Thomas smiled at her widely in the rear-view mirror before pulling the car over to the curb outside a place that advertised breakfast all day long.

"I am highly attuned in the craft of diversion," he lied. "He sounds really great, Kiddo. Shall we go order a metric ton of food?"

"Well as long as he's not the type that wants to make more crappy movies." When they parked she got out, "food sounds fantastic."

"His ideas actually sound pretty kickass, from what he told me of them," Jamie replied. "And lord knows you're right, we don't need any more crappy movies." He climbed out and swung the door shut. "Pancaaaakes," he said, in his best zombie voice.

Thomas led them inside and he slid into a booth. Menus were promptly placed in front of them and he perused it for a moment before rolling up his sleeve so he could look at the spot he had had blood taken from. He clicked his tongue at the bruise which was already forming. "Good god, it's like I'm delicate or something," he groaned, dropping his sleeve with a roll of his eyes. "Today was not my manliest day." It hardly mattered though, Thomas didn't often have manly days.

She glanced at the menu when it arrived but she wasn't terribly hungry. She'd settle for something small. "So what are his ideas. Also it is required for me to tell you that you have such a crush." She grinned to her friend before looking at Thomas. "A delicate, delicate flower."

Jamie balled up a napkin and threw it at her head. "Shut up," he said, but he was grinning. "Like...telling a story from the viewpoint of the monster. Figuring out why they do what they do. That sort of thing."

A server came to take their orders and when he moved away, Thomas leaned back into the booth. He was suddenly very tired. "I like that idea," he said, because going to sleep on the diner table wasn't an option. "Seeing what makes them tick."
